"Hot Spots 3.0 -- David Jackson
Dog guides have the same basic olfactory needs when encountering humans as do their nonworking brothers and sisters, but many of these needs must be deferred, or even abandoned, in the name of professional decorum. So, in response to hundreds of requests, from dog guides all over the world, SOI introduces Hot Spots 3.0, a "scratch and sniff" technology that allows your dog to satisfy his olfactory inclinations in the privacy of his and your own home. Hot Spots 3.0 offers the widest range of olfactory experiences, and is available in both 3.5 and 5.25 inch stickers."

I seriously think this was meant as a joke, especially cause of the 3.5 and 5.25 inch references and cause it comes from a computer magazine. That said, I think it's a wonderful idea. I've never had a guide dog but I do know they love to smell stuff and what a perfect way to keep them out of trouble and to make them happy, especially if they don't go to many new places. What do you guys think? Could something like this really work? What if it was customisible, so that you could put your own chosen scents on the sticker and help the dog associate certain smells with routes or certain places?

Considering the fact that the dog would have to sniff something in order for it to connect a scent with a root, I don't think it would bbe a good idea. What if there was another smell that over powered the first? I was taught in trainging how to set new roots, and what kind of things made good landmarks for dogs, they were all things that did not move on a normal basis. I think the dog gets plenty of scents on a root anyway. I know that my dog will occationally lift her head and sniff at something as we walk passed, I don't need her being distracted by random smells along the way.
this might be a better idea for babies or small children, but not guide dogs in my opinion.

Yeah those stickers would not be good for routes, but maybe for play time, not sure. That kind of sounds like its just a joke anyway.

Oh yeah, I'm sure it's a joke. But it's an interesting idea nonetheless. Perhaps, as you said, for playtime it would be cool.

This has got to be some kind of joke. I had a guide dog and as with all dogs; they also love to smell stuff. I could always tell when she was interested in things, her head would come up and she'd be facing into the breeze, or especailly around trees or poles, you know other things have peed there. I wouldn't want my dog getting distracted by something while I'm walking. She needs to pay attention while in harness, but when she's out of harness in the back yard, she can smell all she wants.
